What to check before you sign a quote

Specification-level guidance you can use on any contractor's proposal, written by a site that sells nothing.

Best Security Screen Doors

There is no single best security screen door. There are four specifications that separate a real one from a decorative one — and a way to check them on any quote.

Sliding Security Screen Doors

Security screens for sliding glass doors cost more than entry-door units and fail differently. What to specify for the track, the span and the lock.

Custom Security Screen Doors

Out-of-square openings, arched tops, double doors and oversized sliders all need custom fabrication. What that changes about cost, lead time and who you can hire.

Stainless Steel Security Screens

Window security screens use the same mesh technology as door units and are priced per opening. What separates a real one from heavy insect screening.
